Many small businesses need someone to keep track of their financial transactions. The owner often has better things to do than keep track of those details himself/herself. Often they don’t want to hire someone full time, so many businesses will hire an off-site bookkeeper. In most cases, you will need to go to the business location to pick up records, but you can often do the bulk of the work from your home.
The defacto standard for small business bookkeeping is QuickBooks. If you know QuickBooks, you’ll have a good advantage over everyone else. A copy of QuickBooks costs around $160 (or more for more advanced versions).
To get started, you could buy a book like QuickBooks for Dummies. It might be worthwhile to get a book about bookkeeping in general, in addition to a QuickBooks book.
